Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Matahari/Surya (PLTM/S)
Energi Matahari telah diketahui dapat dirubah menjadi energi listrik dengan berbagai cara. Salah
satunya dengan menggunakan Solar Cell (Sel Surya/Matahari) dengan teknologi Photovoltaics .
Pembangkit listrik tenaga surya jenis Solar Cell itu konsepnya sederhana. Yaitu mengubah cahaya
matahari menjadi energi listrik. Cahaya matahari merupakan salah satu bentuk energi dari sumber
daya alam. Sumber daya alam matahari ini sudah banyak digunakan untuk memasok daya listrik di
satelit komunikasi melalui sel surya. Sel surya ini dapat menghasilkan energi listrik dalam jumlah
yang tidak terbatas langsung diambil dari matahari, tanpa ada bagian yang berputar dan tidak
memerlukan bahan bakar. Sehingga sistem sel surya sering dikatakan bersih dan ramah lingkungan.
Teknologi lainnya adalah Solar Thermal Energy (STE) yang merupakan teknologi mengumpulkan
energi matahari sebagai energi panas dengan menggunakan pantulan cermin sesuai area yang
dibutuhkan yang dipusatkan atau ditujukan kepada suatu titik penangkap panas matahari yang telah
difokuskan cermin tersebut. Telah terdapat beberapa pembangkit listrik tenaga matahari/surya
(PLTM/PLTS) atau Solar System (Solar Thermal System) yang dibangun.
Solar Thermal System lebih cocok untuk daerah panas dan gersang. Kelemahan Solar System
Konvensional adalah berkurangnya tenaga listrik ketika malam hari ataupun ketika cuaca mendung.
Untuk mengatasi hal ini, Solar Reverse telah membangun sebuah Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga
Matahari (PLTM) atau kadang disebut Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Surya (PLTS) di California.
Bedanya adalah cairan pemanas sebagai penggerak turbin digunakan bukan air biasa , tetapi
menggunakan cairan garam (MOLTEN SALT) .
Cairan Molten Salt dapat mencapai suhu 1000 derajat Fahrenheit (537 derajat Celcius) ketika
mengalir turun dari tower pemanas dan setelah digunakan oleh turbin, suhu molten salt masih
berkisar 500 derajat Fahrenheit (260 derajat Celcius) yang menuju ke tower untuk digunakan atau
dipanaskan kembali.
Teknologi baru ini agak berbeda dengan sistem tenaga matahari konvensional. Pada teknologi
Molten Salt, cairan tersebut juga disimpan pada tabung Thermal Storage System yang akan dilepas
lagi ketika dibutuhkan pada malam hari atau ketika cuaca mendung. Hal ini diharapkan sesuai
kapasitas dapat memberikan listrik selama 24 jam penuh.
PLTM/PLTS ini menggunakan banyak cermin disekeliling tower pemanas untuk memantulkan cahaya
panas matahari ke titik pusat tower yang berisi aliran cairan Molten Salt. Molten salt yang digunakan
dan disimpan diharapkan dapat memberikan efisiensi kerja dan hasil akhirnya adalah tersedianya
listrik selama 24 jam penuh kepada pemakai.

Pembuatan panel surya sederhana

Membuat solar cell / Panel Surya sendiri
Solar Cell atau panel surya adalah alat untuk menconversi tenaga matahari kedalam energy listrik. Solar Cell mulai popular
akhir-akhir ini, selain mulai menipisnya cadangan enegy posil , isu global warming, energy yang dihasilkan juga sangat murah
karena sumber energy (matahari) bisa didapatkan secara gratis.
Sollar Cell berkekuatan besar dapat didapatkan di toko-toko energy alternative seperti alpensteel.com atau toko lainnya. Solar
cell ini terbuat dari pemrosesan silicon tingkat tinggi yang dibuat di pabrik besar, yang menghasilkan energy tingkat besar
namun tentu saja tidak murah.
Namun, apabila Anda sedikit kretif, Anda dapat membuat sendiri solar cell dari bahan-bahan yang di dapatkan dari toko besi
dan hanya dibutuhkan waktu beberapa jam untuk membuatnya.
Solar Cell yang akan kita bangun terbuat dari cuprous oxide dan bukan silicon. Cuprous oxide merupakan salah satu bahan
yang dikenal mampu menampilkann efek photoelectric. Dimana merubah cahaya dan menjadikan listrik mengalir dalam suatu
material.
Bahan Baku yang dibutuhkan
Bahan baku yang dibutuhkan untuk membuat solar cell ini antara lain:
1. Sebuah lembaran tembaga berkilat yang dapat Anda temukan di toko besi.
2. Dua buah capit buaya
3. Sebuah Micro ammeter yang dapat membaca arus antara 10 hingga 50 micro amper.
4. Sebuah kompor listrik, bisa didapatkan di toko elektronik seharga kurang lebih Rp. 100.000
5. Sebuah botol pelastik bening, Anda dapat menggunakan botol bekas air mineral dengan memotong bagian atasnya.
6. Garam meja,  kami menggunakan 2 sendok garam meja.
7. Air Keran
8. Ampelas atau dapat juga menggunakan sikat kawat.
9. Gunting (untuk memotong kawat tembaga)
Bagaimana Membuatnya?
Lantas bagaimana membuatnya? Ikuti langkah-langkah berikut ini :
Persiapkan kompor listrik
Langkah pertama adalah memotong kawat tembaga seukuran dengan panel pemanas pada kompor listik. Sebelumnya cucilah
terlebih dahulu tangan Anda agar tidak ada minyak atau lemak yang menempel pada tembaga tersebut.
Bersihkan tembaga yang telah dipotong dengan sikat kawat atau ampelas agar tidak ada kotoran atau hal lain yang
menghalangi energy matahari yang akan diserap.
Setelah tembaga bersih dan kering, tempatkan tembaga tersebut diatas kompor listrik, kemudian bakar dengan voltase paling
tinggi.
Saat tembaga mulai memanas Anda akan melihat pola oksidasi mulai terbentuk dengan warna yang indah perpaduan antara
warna kuning dan warna orange.
Sebagian tembaga akan lebih panas dan menampilkan warna hitam.
Kemudian setelah warna-warna menghilang, tembaga akan berubah warna menjadi merah terang dengan merata.
Bakar tembaga selama 30 menit hingga lapisan tembaga menjadi menjadi hitam kental. Hal ini penting karena lapisan hitam
akan terkelupas dan lapisan tipis tetap menempel pada tembaga.
Setelah dibakar selama 30 menit, matikan kompor. Tinggalkan tembaga diatas kompor dan biarkan dingin. Biarkan dingin
secara alami karena mendinginkan terlalu cepat akan lapisan oksida hitam tetap akan menempel pada tembaga.
Setelah dingin, lapisan tembaga akan mengkerut oksida hitam juga akan menyusut.
Lapisan oksida hitam akan menyusut perlahan-lahan dengan waktu yang berbeda, sebaiknya Anda bersabar untuk menunggu
proses ini.
Setelah tembaga di dinginkan (memakan waktu sekitar 20 menit) sebagain besar oksida hitam akan menghilang. Cuci dan
gosok perlahan dengan tangan pada air yang mengalir untuk membersihkan butiran-butiran kecil. Cuci secara perlahan dan
jangan meregangkan tembaga karena akan merusak lapisan oksida corpus merah yang kita butuhkan untuk menghasilkan
energy.
Langkah selanjutnya sangat mudah dan cepat.
Potong lembaran tembaga lainnya seukuran dengan tembaga pertama yang telah kita bakar tadi. Tekuk kedua potongan
dengan lembut kemudian masukan ke dalam botol pelastik tanpa menyentuh satu sama lain.
Tembaga yang tadi dibakar adalah sisi yang paling baik untuk menghadap keluar botol karena permukaannya halus dan
bersih.
Pasangkan 2 capit buaya, satu ke tembaga yang baru dan satu lagi ke tembaga yang telah dibakar. Pasang ujung kabel dari
plat tembaga yang bersih ke terminal positif dari meter dan tembaga yang telah dibakar pada terminal negatif pada meter.
Kemudian campurkan 2 sendok garam meja kedalam air yang telah dipanaskan, aduk hingga garam larut pada air. Masukan
air garam kedalam botol dengan hati-hati, jangan sampai membasahi capit buaya yang telah kita pasang.
Air garam yang dimasukan tidak boleh menenggelamkan seluruh plat tembaga, Anda tinggalkan minimal 1 inci tembaga yang
tidak terendam air, hal ini untuk mengurangi resiko capit buaya terkena air saat memindahkan solar cell.
Photo dibawah ini adalah menunjukan energy yang dihasilkan adalah 6 micro amper saat terhalang bayangan saya.
Photo dibawah adalah tenaga yang dihasilkan saat solar cell ditempatkan dibawah sinar matahari, tenaga yang dihasilkan
melonjak menjadi sekitar 33 micro amper. Bahkan kadang-kadang tenaga yang dihasilkan lebih dari 50 micro amper.
